No, nothing fancy here, not even a snarky one-liner quip here. I mean, we've been coming to the VMAs really for the performances all along, right? They were great, the ones I bothered to watch. Of course I love Fifth Harmony so of course I loved their performance. Loved Lorde's too. I didn't bother to see TayTay's (see next paragraph) which was apparently pretty controversial. And stuff.
Mostly though...Katy Perry's jokes were...pretty damn awful. There's no way getting around it. Who the fuck wrote this shit? And it's three hours long. Even if it were impossible for me to go to sleep without flooding my thoughts with TayTay (and just for the record, no, that's not true, I'm using an illustrative example here), I wouldn't be able to do bear all that just to see her performance especially when I can let social media show it to me no less than 12 hours later, if that.
I'm patient enough to wait half a day for social media. I'm not patient enough to wait three hours through a live telecast.
Three. Fucking. Hours.
Ugh.
Awards MVP: Absolutely Jared Leto for his extremely touching tribute to Chester Bennington. In fact this is the sole reason why we're even bothering to have an MVP instead of just skipping it althogether, to give this at least part of the recognition it deserves.
Awards Grade: Meh?
Extra Thoughts:
- don't get me wrong, I like TayTay it's just that...I did make a New Year's Resolution to make the blog less creepy, although if I was really interested in doing that I guess I would've used a different example.
Creepy asides, random pro-SJW rants and somewhere in there reviews of Nickelodeon and Disney Channel shows. And still trying to figure out a layout that doesn't suck.

i love the VMAs i wish pink performance was a bit longer. you are not super creepy.it ok to say shes attractive. taylor swift video was amazing. she made fun of herself. 5th harmony performance was great. Ilove their songs. im joy using my brothers name.
ReplyDelete...are you even over the age of 16?
Deleteim 18 and a girl.
DeleteThen here's a protip: don't go around using other people's accounts when posting. It makes people think you're 11 years old and your parents don't really want you going around this big scary "Internet" thing.
Deleteits default. i cant help it. pink speech was great. katy perry and nicki minaj were awesome. I love that subtle but strong shade 5th Harmony threw. thats how you do it. listening to double toasted. Shawn Mendes were great and alessia cara was awesome. Tay tay video was awesome and she made fun of herself. she had her past selves in the videos and had all these clever references. I love how shes crafty and shady.
ReplyDeletejamel selmon is my little brother. katy hosting was a bit cringy. do you think cyrus from andi mack is gay? w
DeleteSee, I think we need to play a game, a specific game titled, "let's spot all the reasons within those two posts as to why I'm not convinced you're actually as old as you say you are."
DeleteI know it's bad form to engage in your readership negatively like this - hell, this is exactly what I bitched out the guy who runs Nick and More over, and he acted in the super-mature way of blocking me on Twitter over it - but still, I'm reserving the right to demand a *little* maturity from responses, especially when they claim to be 18 and constantly switching user accounts.
it is default. I really dont appreciate your attitude. I'm a loyal reader. I will change Jamel Selmon to joy davis if that makes you feel better i live in crappy middle america reading this blog is one of my few joys.
ReplyDeleteTrust me im 18 i use james selmon and jamel selmon ask sean and christian from nickanddisneyreviewed i dont change it because jamel selmon is the name for my laptop and i use my dads phone to comment. from now on Joy Davis. I really respect you Ray. how do i know you are not a girl? I'm mature. Let's squash this beef and move on. does anyone from disney or nick knows about this blog? it feels like you have probably 8 readers. I don't know. I don't like getting bad vibes. I don't want negative energy. Please. I don't have many friends. what do you think about my comments and questions?
DeleteI'm glad you really do feel that reading this blog is one of the few joys you have...actually, well that and a little concerned, actually. I mean, watching the shows and reading the books that inspired me to write this blog became one of the few joys in my life at a certain point too, but 1.) that's because I had cancer, 2.) that's because my fiancee broke up with me, 3.) those two events happened at the exact same time, 4.) I was convinced Debby Ryan looked like my ex, and that's not healthy and 5.) trust me, the human experience needs more joy than just that.
DeleteI understand how crappy Middle America can be - I'm writing this response and this blog from Middle America. I understand job and education prospects are pretty piss-poor - but that means imagination and creativity only become even that much more important.
I'm guessing from the simple fact you read this blog (and Christian and Sean's blog) that you're interested in Disney and Nick shows, maybe Young Adult novels, I dunno. Again, I'm super-glad you like reading this blog so much but it'd be helpful for you to expand yourself. Someone on AV Club or Gizmodo (too lazy to look it up) talked about the phenomenon of fandoms, and the difference between being a creator and just a passive participant. Being a passive participant is fine, but being a creator I feel will benefit you immensely. What are your specific interests? Would you like to write a blog yourself? If so I'd be more than happy to help you get it started and even cross-promote routinely.
DeleteAs for bad vibes, the number of readers, negative energy, comments and questions...eeehhhhh. I don't want bad vibes either. I've seen a very well-respected blog - Nick and More, no less - basically descend into crap and endless reboots because it turns out that guy can't shake off bad vibes and negative energy. I definitely don't want bad vibes and negative energy in this blog. When I wrote my response to Shipping Wars are Stupid, I tried to carefully make the intro paragraph double as a pre-emptive apology (and the rest of the post clear in that it's no means an attack on him at all, natch), and if I failed at that I have no problem making a grander public apology. But so far your posts really mostly amount to attempts at attention-grabbing. I don't really feel like there's much of substance to respond to. The number of readers...eh, I have to be honest, it is important, but the readers I have right now are important too.
DeleteBut...the comment about not having a lot of friends kinda concerns me too. I'd be happy to be your friend, if you as an 18 year old isn't creeped out by a 32 year old you only know from an online blog dedicated to tweenie-bopper shows. And honestly...you kinda should be. You need friends your age. I'm helping a young woman right now around your age. She doesn't have a lot of friends. She's in fucking jail right now. I want to help her so that when she gets out of jail she has friends. Yes, this is a true story. My point is, friends are important and I'd be happy to help you make friends, but that seems like something your family might be better at, since they get to physically be in the same room with you and all.
DeleteAgain, at the very least if you have any interests or passions that's a starting point not only to get out of crappy Middle America but to make friends even if you're stuck at where you are. And you'll probably enjoy this blog even more, actually, along with Christian and Sean's blog. As for if any Nick and Disney people actually read that blog...I do not know. I have no way of knowing beyond one of them telling me, specifically. And...a part of me kinda hopes they don't.
