I didn't see it yet
I didn't see it yet. I haven't even seen the S1 finale yet
Episode grade: I dunno yet
Episode MVP: I dunno yet
Extra thoughts:
- I dunno yet
- Ok so I saw the "crazy stuff that went down" on Twitter and...so according to you guys what qualifies as "crazy stuff that went down" is also "stuff that people had been saying since Season 1, back when we first got introduced to Cyrus." Also go back and re-read my "Why Harry Hook Isn't an LGBT Character (Unless Proven Otherwise)" Essay.
Creepy asides, random pro-SJW rants and somewhere in there reviews of Nickelodeon and Disney Channel shows. And still trying to figure out a layout that doesn't suck.

I don't like that you keep discrediting the Cyrus spoiler as something surprising/crazy/whatever. Sure, it was something that was hinted at since the first season, and some of us might have seen it coming, but it was still a huge moment, and something that was unprecedented by Disney up until this point. So, it's kind of a big deal. I even got emotional watching it which is rare for me to do with TV these days.
ReplyDeleteWell, that's true. It doesn't take away from the emotion of the moment or how it is just a big moment, for Cyrus as a character and the show as a whole. I really shouldn't be dismissive of it. I think it could be more of a teaching moment if it was, say, Buffy or Bex or Andi's dad or Andi herself (a lesson that being LGBT is so normal anyone can be LGBT) but that doesn't take away from the fact that Cyrus *is* normal, and I fully expect the show to continue with that.
DeleteI think it's just as much of a teaching moment with Cyrus, though. Buffy even emphasized, "you've always been weird, but you're no different". Cyrus is intended to be a positive role model for LGBT people, and I think that role model status could have easily been passed to anyone else on the show if they had wanted.
DeleteSpeaking of which, did you hear about that stupid One Million Moms organization petitioning against Disney for this? It's awful...I don't know how the hell it got 11,000 signatures, but I doubt it'll mean anything in the long run. According to them, a character coming out is "too adult" for Disney, which literally makes no sense because there are plenty of kids watching Disney Channel that are in a position similar to Cyrus.
Here's that if you want to see it in all of its absurdity: https://onemillionmoms.com/current-campaigns/disney-channel-introducing-first-gay-character/
That's true, it doesn't take away that Cyrus has always been a pretty lovable ("adorkable" as they call it on TVTropes) character and I do trust the show to treat him well.
DeleteAlso I wish I never heard of this Million Moms March.
